Windsor Castle

The Queen’s primary country home – and her bolt-hole from central London

A short drive or taxi ride from Heathrow, it’s the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world. Much of the building is allocated for the Queen’s private use but there’s still plenty to see – armour, battlements, furniture – you name it. St George’s Chapel is spectacular.

It’s not uncommon to see her majesty. She often walks the grounds and generally takes a morning horse ride on the estate. And if you want to know whether the monarch is at home – just look up and the royal standard will be flying if she’s in residence.
