Users of Heathrow Airport, including staff and travellers, face paying the daily £12.50 ULEZ charge when it is introduced later this month.

Visitors to the airport are being urged to check their vehicles so see whether they need to pay the compulsory levy which has been introduced by Transport for London in a bid to improve air quality. Older vehicles, including cars, commercial vehicles and motorcycles, are most likely to be affected.

The decision to incorporate London’s outer boroughs into the scheme has met with huge opposition from local politicians and many vehicle owners who argue that it is the poorer members of society who are most likely to be caught up in the net. But a legal challenge has been rejected and it will come into force on August 29.

Heathrow straddles the two outer London boroughs of Hounslow and Hillingdon hence its incorporation into the scheme.
