Air travel gets a major boost with plans for a personal vaccination record on individual mobile phones.

The NHS app can be used as a covid passport under proposals outlined by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps. Acceptance will depend on the policies of various destination countries but all the signs are that it will be suitable for the main Mediterranean holiday destinations.

“In terms of vaccine certification I can confirm we are working on an NHS application, actually it will be the NHS app that it used for people when they book appointments with the NHS and so on, to show you’ve had a vaccine or you’ve had testing” he told Sky News.

The minister added that he was working with other countries to ensure it was internationally acceptable.

Britons have yet to be given the go-ahead for international leisure travel under the lockdown rules – but Spain, Portugal and Greece have already said that they will welcome tourists once it is permissible.

Heathrow-based airlines had especially hoping for clearance to fly to the United States which also has high levels of vaccination.
