As the major gateway for the London 2012 games, Heathrow faced significant challenges in handling some of the unusual equipment needed by the participants. The list was huge, from competition guns to athletic items such as vaulting poles carried here out of terminal 4. By the time the games were over everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief although it was generally recognised as a triumph of logistical organisation.
