Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, returns from the 2008 Beijing games with the olympic flag ready to host London 2012.
The Mayor descended the steps of the BA jet along with a host of athletes who had performed in the games – Britain’s most successful to date. He held a quick photocall and press conference before heading off in his official car.
Needless to say, his outlook changed significantly. He left the Mayoralty in 2016 before becoming UK prime minister in 2019.
